5 Ways to Declutter Your Life
Between quarantine and the start of a new year, it has become very apparent that sometimes we need to take the time to just sit and “declutter”. Whether it be clothes, your refrigerator or your life as a whole, taking the time to declutter is essential.
#1 In a world full of technology, I realize my first tip may seem a bit old school. However, the first tip I have on decluttering is making a list. I personally love to set weekly goals for myself and I’m constantly writing them down. There’s nothing like crossing something off your list once it’s completed. Even if you make a note in your phone or word doc, I highly recommend taking the time to write a simple goal or start by making a list of what you would like to declutter and cross them off as you go.
#2 Another tip that I have learned throughout my life to help declutter and start fresh is to simply just get rid of those clothes that have been sitting in the back of your closet longer than you can remember! You haven’t worn them, and you’re not going to! There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself and expressing yourself through a fresh wardrobe.
Also I recommend deleting any spam emails, old texts or negative friendships on any social media. Cleansing yourself from the negative energy that may be attached to those old emails, friendships or whatever it may be, will lead to so much success when decluttering. Overall it is not worth it to hold on to something that brings no positivity to your life. You may not realize it now, but I find if I take the time to sit and go through these things, it is very refreshing.
Tip #4 is also so simple. I know many of us are working remotely at the moment and find ourselves with some spare time that we may not have had before. I find it useful to take this time to clean something out (refrigerator, bathroom, office, etc.) or reorganize. Having a fresh fridge for example, can help to feel refreshed in so many other aspects of your life such as grocery shopping, menu planning, and healthy eating.
Another great way to declutter your life is to make use of your spare time. Once again due to the pandemic and most of my work becoming remote, I have found it extremely rewarding to try and use my time in a productive way rather than sitting around bored. Sometimes, it can be hard to find the motivation to do much of anything but even the simple things, such as making your bed or cleaning your room can be rewarding instead of wasting your unused time.
Overall, the outcome of decluttering can be so rewarding. I know it can be hard to focus on it, but when you do you will feel so refreshed. I found now is the perfect time to take advantage of the spare time you may not have had a year ago and put that time to use by decluttering your life and benefitting from the positive impacts it will have.
